Mandrake Ponds
An easy commute to both Springfield and Fort Leonard Wood
Mandrake Ponds is located in Wright County, just about 3 miles southwest of Grovespring, Missouri (Pop. 92) and about 40 miles from Springfield (Pop. 140,494) The countryside here has a slow roll to it, as befits a neighborhood composed mostly of dairy farms, small ranches and woods-land. Mandrake Ponds is also quite gentle terrain. All of the property is covered with hardwood forest, predominantly Oak. There are lots of moist depressions which encourage rich soil, and you'll find an abundance of mayapples (what the English of Shakespeare's time called "Mandrake Root") growing profusely in these. Very woodsy; very level; lots of wildlife. Well depths in this area seem to average 200-300 feet, and we guesstimate that your well will cost around $5,500. Hunter Creek Road is well-maintained gravel about 1¼ miles from pavement, and electricity is already in place at Mandrake Ponds. If you're looking for peace and quiet and open air, but you need to stay reasonably close to lots of employment opportunities, we don't think you can find a better location than Mandrake Ponds.
GETTING THERE: I'll assume that by virtue of your charmed life (and your Missouri highway map) you can find Grovespring, Missouri in Northwestern Wright County. From Grovespring, you head west on Highway M until you come upon Hunter's Creek Road . Turn left (south) and drive for about 1.2 miles until you see the Mandrake Lane access road turning to the left (east).
